Our stores/head offices/supply chain

Maxeda's retail operation encompasses 334 stores across Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands, with head offices in Brussels and Amsterdam, along with 2 distribution centers. Additionally, significant carbon emissions are generated during the production, transportation, and usage of our products. By implementing saving measures and adopting resilient solutions, Maxeda aims to reduce its carbon footprint. Our objective is to reduce our carbon footprint by 42% by 2030 compared to 2020 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

Committed to SBTi with the goal of reducing our CO2 emissions by 42% by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050

Sustainable business practices have long been integral to Maxeda's strategy. In 2021, we set a goal to reduce CO2 emissions by 20% by 2030 (compared to the baseline year of 2020). However, aiming for greater and faster progress, we sharpened our target in 2023. By 2030, we aim to reduce CO2 emissions by 42%, with a commitment to achieving climate neutrality by 2050. To scientifically validate these objectives, we have joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Annual collection and reporting of carbon emissions data

To gain deeper insights into our CO2 footprint and identify areas for reduction, we conducted a baseline assessment in 2020. In the coming years, we will focus on streamlining data collection to enhance reporting capabilities. Based on these reports, we will initiate appropriate measures to reduce CO2 emissions further.

Reduce carbon emissions from our own stores/head offices/distribution centers

Lowering emissions from our stores, head offices, and distribution centers is largely within our control. In recent years, we've made significant strides in this regard. For instance, we've opened two energy-neutral Praxis stores, our Brussels head office is a Nearly Energy Neutral (BEN) building, and all distribution centers are equipped with solar panels. Moving forward, we will intensify our efforts, such as reducing energy consumption in stores and transitioning to sustainable energy sources.

Reduce carbon emissions in the supply and distribution chain

Reducing emissions in our supply and distribution chain is a collaborative endeavor with our suppliers. We've established a Sustainable Purchasing Policy, collaborate with our top 25 suppliers to make products and packaging more sustainable, and participate in the EDRA/GHIN Scope 3 Taskforce, collaborating with other major DIY retailers to reduce industry-wide emissions. In the coming years, we will ramp up our efforts through various initiatives in this domain.
