Sustainability
At Maxeda DIY Group, we believe that the path to a better world starts with the choices we make - not only for ourselves but also for future generations. As a leading do-it-yourself retailer in the Benelux, we recognize the importance of our responsibility towards the environment, society, and our organization.
Sustainability is an important part of our business principles. With our “Make It Sustainable” strategy, we work towards a sustainable and attractive retail organization. Our goal is to help Makers contribute to a more sustainable world through their projects.
Part of this strategy is our sustainability roadmap, which focuses on three key areas and related initiatives. Through existing and new projects, we aim to make a positive impact on the environment, society, and our organization. In the coming years, we want to achieve the following targets:
- By 2030, reduce our CO₂ footprint for Scope 1 and 2 by 51% compared to 2021.
- By 2030, reduce our CO₂ footprint for Scope 3 by 51.6% compared to 2021.
- By 2035, reduce our CO₂ footprint for Scope 1 and 2 by 95% compared to 2021.
- By 2050, achieve net zero, with a 97% reduction for Scope 3 compared to 2021.
What are Scope 1, 2, and 3?
To achieve our CO₂ reduction targets, we follow the internationally recognized Greenhouse Gas Protocol. This protocol divides emissions into three categories:
- Scope 1: Direct emissions from our own operations, such as fuel use by company vehicles and heating of buildings.
- Scope 2: Indirect emissions from purchased energy, such as electricity and district heating.
- Scope 3: All other indirect emissions in the value chain, for example the production and transport of purchased goods, the use of sold products, and waste processing.
This classification allows us to take targeted action to reduce our impact on the climate.
